Kanpur: A big good news has emerged for the people of Kanpur in UP from the point of view of medical facilities. For the first time, a special OPD related to liver transplant is going to be started in the city. Liver transplant specialists of Apollomedics Superspeciality Hospital, Lucknow will now give regular consultation at Gastro Liver Hospital, Kanpur. With this, patients suffering from serious liver diseases will be able to get advanced and world class treatment facilities in their own city.
Liver transplant specialist will be available every month
This OPD will be headed by Dr. Abhishek Yadav, Senior Director and HOD, Liver Transplant and HPB Surgery, Apollo Hospital Lucknow. They will see patients on the third Wednesday of every month from 11 am to 3 pm. This is the first time that expert consultation related to liver transplant will be available regularly in Kanpur.
Dr. Yadav told that liver diseases are increasing rapidly in India and every year a large number of patients lose their lives due to lack of treatment. In Uttar Pradesh too, about 50,000–60,000 people die every year due to liver related diseases, but due to limited transplant facilities, only 200–250 operations are done. With the opening of this OPD in Kanpur, thousands of patients will be able to get the right direction and treatment in time.
Government relief up to Rs 5 lakh on liver transplant
Liver transplant is considered an expensive treatment, the average cost of which is Rs 18 to 19 lakh. But Uttar Pradesh government provides great relief to the patients. Through many schemes including Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, patients can get financial assistance up to Rs 5 lakh.
Apart from this, many central schemes and health insurance options are also available, which reduces the financial burden significantly. Now patients of Kanpur will not need to run to big cities like Delhi or Mumbai.
Kanpur will get advanced liver care facility
Chairman of Gastro Liver Hospital and senior gastrologist Dr. V.K. Mishra said that the success rate of liver transplant has now reached 95% to 97%. With modern technology and timely treatment, patients can live a completely healthy life. He said that the objective of this OPD is that the patients of Kanpur and surrounding districts can get complete facilities of specialists in their own city.
Patients will get big benefits from better connectivity
Apollo CEO Dr. Mayank Somani said that after the opening of Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway, patients will be able to reach Lucknow in just 45 minutes. This will make it easier to save lives in emergency situations and regular follow-up after transplant will also be possible without any hassle.
This Liver Transplant OPD, which is being started for the first time in Kanpur, will prove to be a big relief for the patients not only of the city but of the entire Bundelkhand and surrounding districts. The team of experts, government financial assistance and advanced technology together will give new hope to the people suffering from liver diseases.
