Sugarcane nursery benefits: There are many methods of sugarcane cultivation. One way is to prepare a nursery and plant the seedlings. Preparing a nursery has many benefits, such as saving time, saving seeds, reducing costs and increasing production. Local 18 asked a progressive farmer from Gonda about ways to prepare a sugarcane nursery. Let us know.
Gonda. Sugarcane cultivation has always been a profitable deal for farmers. Conscious farmers are achieving more production by adopting modern technology. One of these methods is to prepare a sugarcane nursery. With the help of nursery, uniform and strong plants are produced in the field. Talking to Local 18, Gonda’s sugarcane farmer Lambardar Tiwari says that first of all the farmer brothers should get nursery trays from the market. After this, mix vermi compost and coco peat and fill it in the food of the tree up to 50%. After this, put the sugarcane piece in it. Farmer brothers who do not have a tray can buy poly bags from the market or can prepare a nursery using the bed method.
This work should be done first
Lambardar says that it is necessary to treat sugarcane seeds before nursery. For this, mix 20 to 30 grams of carbendazim in 20 liters of water. Soak sugarcane seeds in a solution of water and carbendazim for 30 minutes. Later, take it out and keep it in a plastic bag and tie it tightly. Seed germination is not good due to lack of air. Sugarcane seeds germinate after 3 days. After this the sugarcane seeds are kept in the previously prepared tray.
how many eyes are needed
Lambardar Tiwari tells that three things are necessary to fill the nursery tray. Good garden soil, vermi compost (organic fertilizer) and coco peat. Mix all three in equal quantity and fill each compartment of the tray up to 50%. This mixture provides necessary nutrition to the plant in the initial period. Keep in mind that while cutting sugarcane, it should have 1 to 2 eyes (buds). Keep the piece straight in each compartment, so that its buds are facing upwards. This cutting later takes the form of a plant.
when will it be ready
After placing the sugarcane pieces, fill the mixture of soil and vermicompost in the tray. After filling the tray, do light irrigation. Do not use too much water, otherwise the pieces start rotting. It is better to spray lightly in the morning or evening. Do not keep the nursery tray in direct sunlight. Keep them in a net house or a shady place. This maintains moisture and the sprouts sprout quickly. Within 8 to 10 days, small sugarcane plants emerge in the tray. They become completely ready for transplanting in 25–30 days.
