what is mythology
During a conversation with Local 18, Mahant Rameshwar Giri told that when the Pandavas were heading towards the Himalayas, they had worshiped in many ancient Shiva temples located in the region, including the famous Someshwar Mahadev Temple in Rishikesh. Today this temple is situated in the Ganga Nagar area and the Shivalinga present here is considered to be Swayambhu, that is, it appeared on its own from the earth.
Folk belief also says that Lord Ram and Lakshman performed Jalabhishek here in Treta Yuga. In Dwapar Yuga, Pandavas and Draupadi also reached this temple and worshiped Shivalinga and received blessings. It is said that only after the puja he crossed the Ganga and then proceeded towards the Himalayas. It is also believed that the Pandavas performed rituals in this area during their exile.
Why is it called Lakshmanjhula
At the place Lakshmanjhula where there is a modern iron bridge today, in ancient times the river was crossed with the help of jute and wood. It is believed that Lakshman had built a bridge at this place with the help of ropes, hence it was called Lakshman Jhula. Due to the Pandavas passing through this route, this land is a symbol of penance, pilgrimage and spiritual journey.
Devprayag, the holy place of salvation and origin of Ganga
Devprayag is also considered a religious stop on this route, where Alaknanda and Bhagirathi together take the form of Ganga. Pandavas reached Devprayag by walking through Lakshman Jhula Devprayag route of Rishikesh, after which they took bath here and prayed for the remission of their sins. For this reason Devprayag is considered the holy place of salvation and origin of Ganga. This entire route from Lakshmanjhula to Devprayag is not just a geographical distance, but is also a living form of spiritual experience and cultural heritage.
