Last chance to switch from NPS to UPS! Now only 72 hours left for guaranteed pension

New Delhi. The deadline to switch from National Pension System (NPS) to Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) is just around the corner. Central government employees who want to leave their NPS and adopt UPS are required to submit their application before 30 November 2025. The Finance Ministry has appealed to all eligible employees and former retirees covered under NPS to complete the process in time.

What is UPS?
UPS was notified by the Central Government in January 2025 and it came into effect from April 1, 2025. In this you will get a fixed pension which will increase every year according to inflation.

• Employee Contribution: 10% (Basic Salary + DA)
• Government contribution: 18.5%
• After retirement, pension equal to 50% of last salary (including DA).
• The family will also get pensionIn this scheme:
  The employee will have to contribute 10% of the basic salary + DA and the government i.e. the employer will contribute 18.5%.

How to apply for UPS?
Employees who want to join UPS can fill the form online by visiting npscra.nsdl.co.in or can submit the physical form at their CRA nodal office. The Finance Ministry has instructed all the nodal offices to process the applications as per the prescribed procedure.

Is UPS part of NPS?
Yes, UPS is operated within the framework of NPS. It is regulated by PFRDA. This rule applies to both serving and retired employees with the specified conditions.

Can you return to NPS later?
Yes. Employees choosing UPS will have the option to come back to NPS in future.
