National medalist Rahul Kumar Yadav of Koderma district has set a new record by being selected in the Army Air Defense of the Indian Army under sports quota. He has become the first wrestling player from Koderma district.

When the district’s rising wrestling player and national medalist Rahul Kumar Yadav has set a new record by getting selected in the Indian Army’s Army Air Defense through sports quota. He has become the first wrestling player from Koderma district to get a government job on the basis of sports achievements. This achievement has created a wave of happiness in the sports world of the district, especially the wrestling family.
A fighting wrestler from a farmer family
Rahul’s journey was not an ordinary one. He is the son of farmer Sita Ram Yadav and housewife Parvati Devi. Despite limited resources, he had an unwavering passion for sports. In the year 2017, he became the Secretary of Koderma District Wrestling Association and NIS. Started practice under the guidance of national wrestling coach Akash Kumar Seth. It was not easy for him to cycle 14 kilometers from Urwan to Tilaiya every day. But courage and dreams never let him back down. When the problem increased while facing the distance, in 2018 he continued practicing with full dedication by staying in the office of the wrestling association.
Better performance from state to national level
He won many gold medals in state level competitions. On the basis of these achievements, he got a chance to participate in the national wrestling competition. Where he represented Jharkhand with excellent performance. After winning the medal at the national level, he was also awarded a scholarship of ₹75,000 from the Jharkhand government. Seeing his dedication and continuous progress, he was selected at SAI Center in Hisar, Haryana. Here he received high level training for four years. During this time, he got opportunities to receive special wrestling training in many countries including Azerbaijan, which further honed his sporting skills.
Selection in Army Air Defense
On the basis of his national medal achievements, Rahul appeared for the Army Air Defense of the Indian Army in September 2024. Performing brilliantly in the trials, he was selected in the army through sports quota. Rahul completed rigorous training at the Army Air Defense Center in Odisha from 1 May 2025 to 3 December 2025. After successfully completing the training, he has now become a part of the army. Which is a matter of pride for Koderma.
Hard work made Rahul an example
Expressing pride in Rahul’s success, his guru and District Wrestling Association Secretary Akash Kumar Seth said that Rahul proved that anything is possible with hard work, discipline and dedication. This boy from a farmer family used to practice by cycling 14 kilometers every day, but never got tired, never stopped. Today he is bringing glory to the entire district by joining the army. I am confident that he will also excel in serving the nation.
