How to Identify Real Paneer at Home: Nowadays, the popularity of paneer is increasing in every household. Many delicious dishes are made from it and it is in demand in every small and big event. But the increasing problem of fake Paneer in the market is becoming a cause of concern for people. In such a situation, it is important to know whether your cheese is real or adulterated.
Assistant Commissioner Second Food Officer, District Ballia, Dr. Ved Prakash Mishra told that there are some simple home remedies to identify real and fake cheese. First of all, boil the paneer in some hot water and cool it. After this, add two to three drops of iodine tincture on the cheese. If the color of the cheese turns blue or black, then starch has been added to it. The color of real cheese never changes.

Touch test is also effective. Real cheese springs back into place when pressed with a slightly spongy texture. Whereas fake cheese will either be hard like rubber or will be sticky and stick to the fingers. In water test, real cheese tries to float lightly, whereas fake cheese sinks quickly and sometimes even breaks in water.
Differentiate between real and fake cheese by color
The difference becomes more apparent upon cooking. Real cheese does not melt but turns light brown and spreads its aroma. Fake cheese burns quickly, becomes sticky and releases more oil or water. Pay attention to color and price. Genuine cheese is light cream in colour, while a very bright white color may be a sign of adulteration. Even cheese priced much lower than the market price is often fake.
Identify real from fake by smell game
Taste and smell also make a big difference. Real cheese has a mild sweet and milky taste, whereas chemicals or artificial odors are added to fake cheese. To choose genuine cheese, do water test, iodine test and touch test at home. Moreover, real paneer is always fresh and slightly soft, which makes a noticeable difference in taste and texture even when cooked.
With these easy steps, you can ensure safe and genuine paneer for your family and take care of health along with taste.
