A section of legislators and politicians, including Chickpet MLA B Z Zameer Ahmed Khan and Kampli MLA JN Ganesh, are openly supporting Siddaramaiah to lead the state in case the Congress gets a majority in the assembly elections in 2023. Others want Congress state president DK Shivakumar to play this role. On the other hand, it has also been learned that AICC national general secretary and party’s Karnataka in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala will also visit the state and hold a meeting with the office bearers here.
This meeting has come at a time when the BJP in Karnataka is thinking of removing BS Yeddyurappa from the post of Chief Minister. Congress sources believe that if Yeddyurappa is shown the door, there may be turmoil in the BJP. According to the English newspaper The Indian Express, a Congress leader said, “He cannot go easily.” There are chances of controversy. Which we are keeping a close eye on.
Siddaramaiah dismissed the matter of controversy
According to The Indian Express, both Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar are fighting for supremacy in the party. Both are eyeing the chief minister’s post. Sources said that Rahul Gandhi asked them to work unitedly and not worry about the chief minister’s post as elections are still two years away. Rahul told him that the focus should be on winning the election. The former Congress president asked them to put aside their differences and not let small hindrances come in the way of the party’s functioning.
According to the report, sources said that both Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar agreed with the Congress leader. In a press briefing after the meeting, Siddaramaiah denied any controversy in the party. He said- ‘Who is going to lead the party?….They are all sitting on this platform. You have Siddaramaiah, Mallikarjun Kharge and DK Shivakumar… and we have our young working president Dhruv Narayan…’
