The main subsidence zone is located near the Joshimath-Auli road at an altitude of 2,180 metres.

Disaster Management Secretary Ranjit Kumar Sinha told that the work of demolishing both the hotels in Joshimath has started. The seven-storey ‘Malari Inn’ and the five-storey ‘Mount View’ in Joshimath bowed dangerously due to land subsidence, threatening about a dozen houses below them.
In fact, 27 more families have been sent to temporary relief centers in Joshimath, while the number of houses marked with cracks has increased to 760. So far 589 members of 169 families have been sent to temporary relief centres. A total of 835 rooms are being used as relief centers in Joshimath and Pipalkoti, where there is accommodation for 3630 people. The official said that so far 42 affected families have been given interim assistance of Rs 1.5 lakh each. At present, two columns of the State Disaster Response Force and eight columns of the State Disaster Response Force have been deployed in Joshimath, while helicopters of the Army and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) are deployed to deal with any contingency.
