Jamshedpur: As the winter season approaches, the hunger of children in homes increases a lot. During cold days, children keep asking for something hot and tasty to eat again and again. In such a situation, the traditional Gharoya Roti or Chilka Roti made in most of the houses in Jharkhand proves to be an excellent option. The biggest reason for this is that no special material is required to make it. A tasty and nutritious breakfast can be made from vegetables and flour available at home.
The specialty of Gharoya or Chhilka roti is that the vegetables used in it are completely as per the choice of the family. If you want, you can use carrots, beans, capsicum, onion or any seasonal vegetable. All the vegetables should be chopped very finely so that they can be mixed easily into the flour and do not break while making the roti. Finely chopped vegetables also make this roti colorful and attractive, due to which children eat it more fondly.
After this, take wheat flour in a big bowl. If you want, you can also add some gram flour and semolina to increase the taste and crispness. The mixture of these three makes the roti slightly crispy from outside and soft from inside. Then add chopped vegetables, some salt, one spoon sugar, light cumin and if desired, green chilli or coriander. Now prepare a thick solution by adding water little by little. The batter should neither be too thin nor too thick, just enough to be spread by hand.
Once the solution is ready, keep it covered for 10-15 minutes. Due to this, the semolina swells well, the taste of the vegetables gets absorbed into the flour, due to which the roti becomes even softer and tastier. Meanwhile, heat a pan and apply some oil on it. Now spread the batter thinly on the pan with the help of hands. Cover it and cook on medium flame so that the vegetables get cooked properly and the roti gets cooked in a beautiful golden brown color.
After baking well from both the sides, your delicious, nutritious and vegetable-rich Ghoroya Roti is ready. In the cold season, this roti not only quenches the hunger of children but also gives them plenty of energy. Serve it with chutney or pickle, and believe me – this roti will become your favorite dish in your house every morning and evening during winters.
