Tilakotsav ceremony was performed in Ram temple during Vivah Panchami festival in Janakpurdham. In this, the tradition of Shri Ram-Janaki marriage left everyone emotional with sweet memories among the devotees.
The historical Vivah Panchami Mahotsav is continuing with enthusiasm in Janakpurdham to memorialize the traditions of the divine marriage of Lord Shri Ram and Mata Janaki. On Sunday, the fourth day of the festival, the Tilakotsav ceremony was held in the Ram temple premises, in which thousands of devotees were present.
Tilakotsav is considered a very important stage of Vivah Panchami festival. According to mythological beliefs, King Janak had offered Tilak to Shri Ram before the selection of daughter Sita. In this memory, this ritual is celebrated every year with full enthusiasm and devotion, which provides spiritual bliss to the devotees.
On Sunday, Mahant Ramroshan Das, the successor of Janaki temple, reached Ram temple carrying Pahur as Vaishnav ‘Pitrapaksha representative’. There Mahant Ram Giri, considered the representative of Ayodhya court, welcomed him with dignity. This union further strengthened the religious and cultural ties between the two sides.

Mahants from both sides completed the ritual of ‘Samadhi Milan’ by doing Ankamal as per the ancient tradition. This ritual is considered a symbol of respect, harmony and love between the bride and groom’s side. During this, the devotees present experienced spiritual joy by witnessing this sacred scene.
A unique confluence of humour, bhajan-kirtan and invocation was seen in Tilakotsav. Mahant Das of the bride’s side handed over the traditional ‘Pahur Bhar’ to Mahant Giri of the groom’s side. With this ritual, the eternal traditions of Shri Ram-Janaki marriage came alive again and the devotees filled the atmosphere with cheers.
The excitement of the festival is going to increase further. On Monday, Janaki’s Matkor will be held at Gangasagar Pokhari, where a large number of devotees are expected to gather. On Tuesday, the main day of Vivah Panchami, Shri Ram-Janaki Swayamvar and auspicious marriage ceremony will be held in the Janaki temple premises in the night.
