In the last 24 hours, five people, including two women, died in attacks by wild elephants in Jharkhand. These incidents took place in Sirka forest of Ramgarh and Angara area of Ranchi. Forest department teams are monitoring the elephants. Many elephant herds are active in the forests of Ramgarh-Bokaro border.
Ramgarh: The terror of wild elephants is continuously increasing in Jharkhand. Within the last 24 hours, a total of five people, including two women, have died tragically in elephant attacks in different areas of the state. There is an atmosphere of panic in the entire area due to this incident. The Forest Department and the District Administration are appealing to the people to remain alert.
According to officials, three people lost their lives in an elephant attack in Sirka forest area of Ramgarh district on Tuesday night. A 36-year-old man also died in Jidu village of Angara police station area of Ranchi district. Ramgarh’s Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Nitish Kumar said that some bodies found in Sirka forest have not been identified yet. Help of local people is being sought to identify the dead.
Forest guards deployed
The Forest Department said that two Quick Response Teams (QRT) and several forest guards have been deployed in the area to keep an eye on the movements of elephants. These teams are continuously patrolling the forest and surrounding villages, so that any other untoward incident can be prevented.
Death while making video
Giving information about another incident, DFO Nitish Kumar said that on Tuesday afternoon, 32-year-old Amit Kumar Rajwar reached near a herd of eight wild elephants roaming in the forest to make video and take photographs. Meanwhile, the elephants suddenly attacked and crushed Amit, due to which he died on the spot. Officials have warned people that going near wild animals can be extremely dangerous.
Chaos due to herd of elephants
According to the Forest Department, at present about 42 different herds of elephants are roaming in the forests bordering Ramgarh and Bokaro districts. This is the reason why there is danger in the surrounding villages. Villagers have been advised not to go towards the forest at night and not to make noise or molest the elephants.
Angara police station in-charge Gautam Kumar Rajwar said that a person named Sancharva Munda died during treatment in the elephant attack. Two people including a woman have been injured in this incident, who are undergoing treatment in the hospital. The administration has assured all possible help and compensation to the affected families.
