New Delhi/Patna. After the crushing defeat in the Bihar Assembly elections, the Congress high command has now given a clear, strict and strategic instruction to the state unit to strengthen the organization on all 243 seats and not depend on any ally. According to sources, the leadership on Saturday, without taking the name of RJD, has clearly said that Congress will have to prepare to stand on its feet in every assembly and 40 Lok Sabha seats. It is noteworthy that till now Congress often limited its organizational activities to ‘RJD influenced areas’, but the party leadership has indicated that this strategy should now be considered over. The latest line of the party is – ‘First strengthen yourself, only then any ally will give you importance.’
Recently, many Congress candidates had advised the party to separate from RJD and contest elections in Bihar. In political circles, this is being seen as a sign of serious rift in the direction of the Grand Alliance. After a meeting with Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge in Delhi on Saturday, Bihar Congress President Rajesh Ram said the focus of the discussion was ‘strengthening the organization and strict enforcement of party discipline’.
Sources also made it clear that after the election defeat in Bihar, the Congress leadership will not take action against the state president, but strict action will now be taken against organizational laxity and indiscipline of workers.
Many meanings are being inferred from Congress’s new strategy:
* Message to end dependence on RJD.
* Plan to prepare ground-level cadre on all seats.
* Preparation for action against undisciplined leaders.
* Congress will prepare itself as an ‘independent political entity’ for Bihar elections.
This is considered to be the biggest strategic shift of Congress in the politics of Bihar, where for the first time the party is clearly indicating that it wants to enter the field not as a ‘partner’ but as a ‘competitor’ in the upcoming elections.
