Onion Price: While the prices of petrol and diesel have disturbed the general public all over the country, onion prices are also continuously increasing on the other hand. Onion sold around twenty rupees a kilo two months ago has now become almost two and a half times more expensive. According to experts, from March next month, its arrival will be sufficient and then it can be expected to soften its price.

New Delhi. While the prices of petrol and diesel have upset the general public all over the country, onion prices are also increasing continuously on the other hand. Onion sold around twenty rupees a kilo two months ago has now become almost two and a half times more expensive. According to the price report given on the Department of Consumer Affairs, onion was sold at Rs 50 per kg on February 19, while onion was sold at Rs 36 per kg on January 19, a month earlier. In this way, onion prices in Delhi’s retail market rose by Rs 14 per kg in just one month.

What is the reason for the price rise?
The reason for this increase in prices is being told in supply problems. Adil Ahmed Khan, chairman of the Azadpur Mandi Committee, Asia’s largest fruit-vegetable market, explains the price rise of onions due to the decrease in supply. Apart from this, the arrival of onion has been affected due to rain, due to which its prices have gone up. According to Adil, from March next month, its arrival will be sufficient and then its price can be expected to soften.

Rajendra Sharma, General Secretary of Delhi’s Azadpur Mandi Potato Onion Merchant Association (POMA), says that from March next month, it will be sufficient inward and then the price can be expected to soften. Retail prices of onions were Rs 50 in Delhi on 19 February 2021, while Rs 40 a year ago on 19 February 2020 and Rs 20 per kg on 19 February 2019 a year earlier.

Talking about Asia’s largest onion market in Nashik, the onion was sold at the maximum price of Rs 4200 per quintal in Lasalgaon Agricultural Produce Market Committee today i.e. on 20 February. At the same time, many vegetables including onions have become expensive in Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, Faridabad and Sonipat.
