Understand the chaos of Indigo flight cancellation in 10 points
1. Suddenly operational problems increased
Indigo has cited operational problems, due to which a large number of flights are not able to fly on time. It is said that the second phase of Flight Duty Time Limitation (FDTL) came into effect from November 1. Under this, the weekly rest period of pilots was increased from 36 hours to 48 hours. Apart from this, the limit for night landing has also been reduced from 6 to 2. The company was not ready for this new arrangement.
2. DGCA relaxed roster rules
In view of the situation, aviation regulator DGCA has given temporary lump sum exemption from some provisions of FDTL till 10 February 2026. The regulator has requested all pilot associations to cooperate. This relaxation has been given only to temporarily stabilize operations and will not be considered as relaxation in safety standards. This discount will be valid till 10 February 2026. There will be a review every 15 days, for which the airline will have to send a report.
3. Hundreds of flights canceled in a single day
Not just one or two, but hundreds of flights were canceled or re-scheduled across the country in a single day.
4. Fear of shortage of engineering and crew
According to sources, maintenance related problems and lack of crew could be a major reason. However, this has not been directly accepted by the official side of the company.
5. Chaos at airports
Long queues of passengers formed at IndiGo counters at major airports like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad.
6. Many passengers did not get timely information
There is a flood of complaints on social media. Many passengers allege that the information about flight cancellation was given at the last moment.
