New Delhi. It is said that flying dreams only requires courage, the sky has no limits. The story of Bhavna Kanth, daughter of Darbhanga, Bihar, is an example of this courage and flight of dreams. Bhavana, one of the first three women fighter pilots of the Indian Air Force, today protects the skies of the country and tells the world that daughters can reach any destination anywhere.
Since childhood, he developed a passion for flying after seeing aircraft flying in the sky. The family environment was one that gave importance to studies and hard work. Father is a doctor and mother is a teacher – we always learned at home that daughters are no less than anyone. Bhavana was very promising in studies also. By scoring more than 90 percent marks in class 10th, he won ‘Medha Award’, which gave a new direction to his self-confidence.
In the path of engineering, she went to Kota and it was here for the first time that she expressed her desire to join NDA. But at that time the path to NDA was closed for girls. After this, he did B.Tech in Medical Electronics from BMS Engineering College, Bengaluru and then got success in the Air Force examination.
In 2016, a historic decision was taken by Defense Minister Manohar Parrikar to open the fighter stream for women. This opportunity proved to give a new direction to Bhavana’s life. Bhavana Kanth, Avani Chaturvedi and Mohana Singh – three names became symbols of India’s women power across the world.
But true history was written on March 16, 2018, when Bhavana solo flew MiG-21 ‘Bison’. This is the same high-speed fighter aircraft, which is always considered challenging for the Indian Air Force to fly. Thousands of feet above, the lone Indian woman pilot in a high-speed jet – this scene was a proud moment for the country. This was not just an achievement of sentiment, but the confidence of millions of daughters who had the courage to dream big.
Honoring Bhavna’s achievements, President Ramnath Kovind honored her with ‘Nari Shakti Puraskar’ in 2020. This honor proves that anyone can write a new history with hard work, determination and courage. Today Bhavana Kanth is not just a fighter pilot but another name for inspiration. Every daughter learns from her flight – only those who rise above fear fly high.
