Indian Army News- Women officers got equality in Indian Army, 108 got colonel post, promotions in these departments

New Delhi, Women officers are now being promoted to the rank of colonel in the Indian Army. In an unprecedented move, around 80 women officers have been approved for promotion to the rank of colonel so far. After which she has become eligible for command units in arms and services for the first time. According to a report in The Indian Express, the proceedings of the Women Officers Special No. 3 Selection Board, which began on January 9, is currently underway at the Army Headquarters for promotion from the rank of Lieutenant Colonel to the rank of Colonel. So that they can be brought at par with their male counterparts.

Against 108 vacancies from 1992 to 2006 batch, 244 women officers are being considered for promotion in various arms and services including Engineers, Signals, Army Air Defence, Intelligence Corps, Army Service Corps, Army Ordnance Corps and Electrical Officers involved. Defense sources told The Indian Express that the Corps of Engineers department has the maximum number of 28 vacancies, for which 65 women are being considered. This is followed by Army Ordnance Corps and Electrical-Mechanical Engineering which have 19 and 21 vacancies each and 47 women officers are being considered for the rank of Colonel in each of them.

The report said that seven women officers are being considered for promotion against three vacancies in the Army Air Defense and seven women officers are being evaluated for promotion against five vacancies in the Intelligence Corps. 29 and 42 women officers are being evaluated for promotion against the existing 14 and 18 vacancies for Army Service Corps and Corps of Signals respectively. An army official informed that the promotion board is being held every day for a particular batch, starting from 1992, and the results are being declared immediately. Every officer gets three chances for promotion.
