Hyderabad: The increasing population of pigeons in some areas of Hyderabad has increased the concern of citizens and administration. Local people say that pigeon droppings are not only polluting public places but are also posing health hazards. For this reason, an appeal has been made to the city residents not to feed the pigeons, especially at major places like Hussain Sagar Lake and Mecca Masjid.
According to local residents, there has been a sudden increase in the number of pigeons due to which their droppings are getting deposited on buildings, roads and footpaths. This is not only affecting the sanitation system, but there is also a danger of spreading many types of diseases. Pigeon feces can cause health problems like fungal infections, respiratory problems and allergies.
Administration and citizens took steps
In view of this problem, boards like Do not feed pigeons have been put up in some areas of Hyderabad. These include prominent places like Hussain Sagar and Mecca Masjid where people often feed pigeons. The administration says that if people stop feeding pigeons, their population can be controlled and the harm to public health can be reduced.
Expert advice
Animal experts and health officials believe that feeding pigeons increases their reproduction rate, causing their population to expand rapidly. Additionally, their feces may contain harmful fungi like Cryptococcus and Histoplasma that can cause serious diseases in humans.
