Because in this season the growth rate of fishes is greatly affected. That is why it is important that fish farmers keep in mind some important things to protect the fish from cold during the winter season, so that they do not have to face any kind of loss. Let us know from the Fisheries Inspector what things fish farmers should keep in mind during the winter season. Rae Bareli’s Fisheries Inspector Shashank Naman (B.Sc. Agriculture Allahabad University), who has 10 years of experience in the field of fish farming, tells Local 18 that the season of sowing of wheat i.e. Rabi crop has started. Cold weather begins in this season. This season is very harmful for fishes. Keep these 7 things in mind.
1. Control the water temperature: The water temperature becomes very low in winter, which is harmful for the health of the fish. Try to maintain the water temperature between 20-25 degrees Celsius.
2. Take care of oxygen level: Due to cold in winter, the amount of dissolved oxygen in water may reduce. Therefore, regularly use oxygen supply devices in water to maintain the oxygen level.
3. Nutritional focus: The metabolism of fishes slows down in winter, so feed them light and small quantity. Give only easy to digest diet to the fishes, and control the quantity of food.
4. Water Quality: Water quality is very important for the health of fish. Nitrogen and ammonia levels may increase in winter, so keep cleaning the water from time to time.
5. Take care of sunlight: Fish should get the benefit of sunlight in winter. If possible, keep the tank in such a place where the fish can get enough sunlight.
6. Prevention from diseases: Fish are more sensitive to infections in cold weather. Regularly check the cleanliness of the water and fish and treat any signs of disease immediately.
7. Take measures to protect yourself from cold: If you are rearing fish in a pond, you can install bamboo or plastic shading around the pond. This will keep the temperature of water stable and the effect of cold will be reduced.
