CJI Surya Kant: CJI Surya Kant called honesty the basis of justice and dignity. The CJI said, “Honesty is something you do when no one is watching. Courage is something you do when everyone is watching.”
Sonipat. Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant on Saturday said that honesty is not just a trait of character but it is a discipline that upholds both justice and dignity. Justice Surya Kant asked the students of law course to make their honesty the basic characteristic of their character. The Chief Justice said this at an international conference on ‘Independence of the Judiciary: Comparative Perspective on Rights, Institutions and Citizens’ organized at OP Jindal Global University.
On this occasion, the world’s largest ‘moot’ court ‘Nyayabhyas Mandapam’ was inaugurated. The ‘International Mooting Academy for Advocacy, Negotiation, Dispute Adjudication, Arbitration and Resolution’ (IMAANDAAR) was also inaugurated. ‘Moot Court’ is a mock court, where law students analyze imaginary cases.
Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, MP and University Vice Chancellor Naveen Jindal and many well-known people associated with the law field participated in the program. The CJI began his address by saying, “Integrity is something you do when no one is watching. Courage is something you do when everyone is watching.” “IMAANDAAR is dedicated to advocacy, negotiation, dispute resolution, mediation and adjudication processes,” he said.
The CJI said, “Integrity is not just an ornament of personality. It is the discipline that maintains both justice and dignity. In an era where truth has to compete with knowledge, where deepfakes are distorting reality, disinformation is on the rise and incidents of digital arrest are becoming common, honesty and integrity are no longer just lofty ideals. They have become tools of survival.”
