Wheat irrigation tips: Proper irrigation during winter is very important for better yield of wheat, the main crop of Ravi season. Wrong timing or excessive watering can cause huge damage to the crop. The District Agriculture Officer of Mau has given necessary advice to the farmers regarding first irrigation, quantity of water and protection from frost.
Mau: Timely and balanced irrigation is very important for good yield and quality of wheat, the main crop of Ravi season. But a little carelessness in the winter season can cause huge losses to the farmers. Irrigation done at wrong time or in excessive quantity affects the crop. In such a situation, it becomes very important to irrigate as per the advice of experts.
District Agriculture Officer Prakash Gupta himself has given important suggestions for the farmers cultivating wheat during Ravi season in Mau district. Speaking to Local 18, he said that special care should be taken while irrigating wheat crops during winter. If irrigation is done without checking the moisture of the soil, the crop may suffer loss instead of profit. If there is already sufficient moisture in the field, irrigation causes rotting, yellowing and loss of nutrients in the roots of the plants, which has a negative impact on the production.
Do first irrigation after 20 to 25 days
According to the District Agriculture Officer, the right time for first irrigation in wheat crop is 20 to 25 days after sowing. This stage is considered very important for the development of roots and buds. Due to lack of water at this time, there can be a huge decline in the yield. After this, farmers should pay special attention to the flatness of the field so that the water spreads evenly over the entire field. Due to excess water in some places and less water in other places, the growth of plants becomes uneven.
Water quality is also important
The agriculture officer said that it is also necessary to check the quality of water used for irrigation. Stagnant or polluted water is harmful for wheat crop. Such water reduces soil fertility and affects plant growth. Therefore, irrigation should be done only with clean and flowing water.
Smoking is beneficial to protect from cold
To protect the wheat crop from frost during winter, light irrigation in the evening is beneficial. Along with this, smoke should be created by burning straw or other dry remains around the field at night. Due to this, the frost accumulating on the leaves of wheat gets eliminated along with the smoke and the growth of the plants improves.
Ways to remove yellowness
If yellowness is seen in the wheat crop, then farmers should spray urea containing sulphur. According to the District Agriculture Officer, spraying the amount of 5 kg per acre removes the yellowness of the crop and brings back the greenery of the plants.
irrigate sparingly
While irrigating wheat, the quantity of water should always be kept light. Excess water can damage the roots of small plants and cause rotting problems. Therefore, after irrigation in the winter season, it is very important for the farmers to smoke by burning straw or garbage around the fields and to do balanced irrigation. This will keep the wheat crop healthy and the yield will be better.
