Mohan Bhagwat News: In the Nagpur Book Festival, Mohan Bhagwat narrated a funny story about the sailor and the professors, which made everyone laugh. He explained the importance of wisdom along with education. Mohan Bhagwat said, “I personally am very fond of reading. I read a lot. At the same time, I also respect people who write because we get to learn a lot from them.”
Nagpur. Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat shared an interesting anecdote at the ‘Nagpur Book Festival’ organized in Nagpur, Maharashtra on Saturday, after hearing which everyone present there laughed. Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat, while narrating an interesting incident, said that once the professors of Mathematics and Physics were going somewhere in a boat, then both the professors asked the driver of the boat, “Are you driving this now?” But, do you know how it works? How is its entire process? Water velocity, speed and how does gravity work? Do you know about all these things? So on this the boatman said that sir, we have no information about this. We simply earn our living by sailing this boat of ours, because when we were old enough to learn all these things, we spent our entire life in sailing the boat. Because of this we are unable to learn anything. By and large, we simply make our living by sailing the boat.
The head of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh said that after the Physics professor, the Mathematics professor said to the boatman, “Okay, we have accepted that you do not know about all these things, but you must know how to count etc.; I mean to say that you must know mathematics,” to which the boatman said, “No sir, I don’t know this either.” I only know about seventy-eight. I only recognize that coin. Other than that, I have no idea. After hearing this, the mathematics professor said that you have wasted your entire life. Didn’t learn anything.
He said that when both the professors had finished their talk, suddenly there was a storm in the river. After this the boatman asked both the professors whether they know how to swim? On this both the professors said, “No, we do not know how to swim,” to which the boatman said, “Well, half of my life has been ruined. But now your entire life is about to end.”
After listening to this story, everyone present at the program laughed. No one present at the program could control their laughter. Even the Sangh chief laughed while narrating this story. The Sangh chief told the people who came to the program that this story teaches us a lot. Personally, I am very fond of reading. I read a lot. Also, I respect people who write a lot, because we get to learn a lot from them. But, we have to understand one thing here that apart from knowledge, reading also gives us wisdom.
