If the tongue is not cleaned, gradually changes in its color and texture start appearing. If the tongue is not cleaned for a long time, it starts appearing white or yellow, especially due to the layer accumulated in the back part. If the tongue is not cleaned, then the tongue biofilm increases the risk of bad breath, loss of taste, plaque in the teeth, gingivitis and oral thrush.
If you do not clean your tongue for a month, its first effect is visible in the form of bad breath. This is because food particles, bacteria and dead cells accumulate on the tongue and form a layer, which is called tongue biofilm. Reports say that 70-80% of the bad smell comes from this layer of the tongue, because it becomes the perfect place for bacteria to grow.
According to the reports of Indian Express, if the tongue is not cleaned, gradually changes in its color and texture start appearing. If not cleaned for a long time, the tongue starts appearing white or yellow, especially due to the deposits on the back part. Sometimes this layer gives a greasy feeling in the mouth, even if you brush. Apart from this, when this dirt accumulates on the taste buds, the ability to sense taste also reduces and the flavors do not appear as strong or sharp.
Reports also say that bacteria deposited on the tongue can affect other parts of the mouth as well. Due to this, plaque can increase in the teeth, cavities can form and the risk of gum disease i.e. gingivitis increases. In people who have low immunity, this dirt can later cause fungal infections like oral thrush. Due to lack of proper cleaning of the tongue, the balance of saliva gets disturbed, which causes dryness and discomfort in the mouth.
The right way to clean your tongue
According to reports, it is important to clean the tongue daily and the best way for this is to use a tongue scraper. To use it properly-
Take out the tongue slightly and place the scraper on the back part of the tongue.
Bring it forward in slow motion with light pressure.
Do not scrape too hard, this may cause irritation or injury to the tongue.
Wash the scraper in clean water every time and repeat this process 3-4 times, until the tongue looks clean.
If you don’t have a scraper, you can also clean the tongue gently from back to front with a brush.
