In the news of Indian Express, Dr. Shireen Furtado, Cosmetic and Dermatologist at CMI Hospital, Bengaluru, says that often people get influenced by advertisements and start taking such medicines. They think that with this medicine the hair will become shiny, thick, long and healthy but it does not happen. It is neither safe nor effective. Most hair growth gummies or tablets contain biotin, zinc and some vitamins but if you take them without doctor’s advice then it can prove to be extremely harmful. Dr. Sheerin told that if there is too much biotin in this medicine then it will react with the blood which will cause adverse effects on the heart and will also cause thyroid related problems. Some gummies contain a lot of added sugar and artificial colors. It is used for preservatives. If these tablets contain all this then it can lead to weight gain and pimples on the face. Not only this, if you take this tablet for a long time, it will also increase the risk of diabetes. For people whose intestines are weak, this medicine will bloat the stomach. This can increase bloating, nausea, diarrhea and many stomach related problems. Dr. Furtado said that in some cases, taking vitamins in excess quantity can put pressure on the liver and kidneys. Apart from this, hair gummies or tablets cannot cure hair fall due to hormonal imbalance, stress or thyroid because they only provide extra vitamins which the body does not need.
Then how to stop hair fall
Dr. Shireen Furtado says that instead of taking tablets available in the market for hair growth, focus on a balanced diet rich in protein, iron and vitamins. For this, eggs, fish, dry fruits, spinach and fruits should be consumed. Integrative nutritionist and health coach Karishma Shah has advised about some foods beneficial for hair growth.
- Eggs or Cheese: Both are excellent sources of protein, which are essential in hair growth. Including enough protein in the diet makes hair strong and durable.
- Walnut: Rich in omega-3 fatty acids, walnuts are great for scalp health. These healthy fats strengthen the hair, reduce hair fall and bring natural shine to the hair.
- Pumpkin Seeds: Pumpkin seeds and flax seeds provide rich nutrition with very few calories. Selenium, Omega-3, Zinc, B-Vitamin and Vitamin E are found in these.
- Fatty Fish: A good source of omega-3 fatty acids which keeps hair follicles hydrated. Their antioxidant capacity prevents inflammation in the follicles which usually causes hair fall.
- Dates: Rich in iron, dates help prevent hair fall. Iron deficiency is a common cause of hair fall, so iron-rich foods are helpful in preventing it.
- spinach: This green leafy vegetable is a good source of iron and vitamins A and C. Iron helps deliver oxygen to the hair roots, while vitamins A and C help produce sebum (a natural conditioner) on the scalp.
- Beetroot: Better blood circulation is important for hair growth. Beetroot contains iron, vitamins and minerals, which help in improving blood flow to the scalp.
- Green Moong: Rich in protein and biotin, green mung beans support hair strength and overall hair health.
- Ghee: Ghee, traditionally used in Indian cuisine, provides essential fatty acids, which help keep the scalp healthy. Apart from all this, drinking enough water, getting good sleep and reducing stress also improve hair health naturally.
