Mustard Cultivation Tips: If yellow manure i.e. sulfur is not used at the time of irrigation in mustard crop, then the plants may turn yellow and flowers start falling. Especially at the bud and flowering stage, sulfur deficiency reduces both the yield and the amount of oil. Applying sulfur at the right time along with light irrigation helps the flowers to survive.
Mau: Right time and proper method of irrigation is considered very important for good and abundant production of mustard. Mustard is an oilseed crop that requires limited water, but if irrigation is done at the wrong time or in the wrong amount, it can have a negative impact on the entire crop. It has been seen many times that due to lack of correct information about irrigation, farmers give more water than required in the hope of higher yield, due to which the roots of mustard become weak, the problems of yellowing of plants, flower fall and disease increases.
Agriculture Deputy Registrar Officer Satyendra Chauhan told Local 18 that it is very important for the farmers cultivating mustard to know the right time of irrigation, because even a little carelessness has a direct impact on the yield. Irrigation of mustard crop twice is considered most appropriate. The first irrigation should be done in light quantity about 30 to 45 days after sowing, when the plants start growing. Second irrigation should be done at the stage of fruit or bud formation, i.e. after about 60 to 65 days. At this time, due to lack of moisture in the field, flowers start falling, which can lead to a huge decline in the yield.
Use sulfur along with irrigation
Satyendra Chauhan told that due to excessive watering of mustard crop, the risk of root rot increases and the plants start turning yellow, due to which flowers fall and production is affected. Therefore, sulfur must be used at the time of irrigation, because sulfur plays an important role in the growth of mustard and increasing the oil content. He clarified that there should not be waterlogging in the fields under any circumstances. Due to stagnation of water, root rot and fungal diseases spread rapidly.
Excessive irrigation causes harm
The decision of irrigation of mustard should not be taken only by looking at the calendar, but keeping in mind the condition of the crop. Light and controlled irrigation is most beneficial. Irrigation done with strong flow should be avoided. Irrigation at the right time and in the right amount increases both the yield and quality of mustard oil, which can also increase the income of farmers. Mustard may be a Rabi crop that grows with less water, but not getting timely irrigation or giving excessive water can cause huge losses to the production. Therefore, farmers should take special care during irrigation.
