Health tips: If you want to adopt a healthy diet in winter, then use multigrain flour instead of relying on only one flour. Local 18 talked to Dr. Rajkumar, an AYUSH doctor from Rishikesh, about this. Dr. Rajkumar explains that by doing this the body will continue to get all the essential nutrients along with warmth. Both of these are essential for the body in winter.
It is very important to choose the right flour while taking care of health in winter because the body’s need for both heat and nutrition increases in the cold season. In this season, we should choose such grains which are rich in fiber, protein, iron, calcium and energy giving elements. Flours like millet, ragi, jowar and maize are considered especially beneficial in winter as they strengthen the body from within and reduce the effect of cold.
Bajra flour is considered to be the most popular and beneficial flour of winter. Its effect is hot, which helps in protecting the body from cold. Iron, magnesium, fiber and protein are found in abundance in it. Eating millet roti keeps the stomach full for a long time and the body gets continuous energy. It also provides relief from joint pain, weakness and fatigue caused by cold.
Ragi flour is a treasure trove of nutrition for winter as it contains the highest amount of calcium, which helps in strengthening bones. Amino acids, iron and antioxidants present in ragi increase the body’s immunity. Ragi roti or ragi porridge is considered especially beneficial for children and the elderly in winter. It protects the body from weakness in cold weather by keeping it warm.

Both these flours provide heat to the body, which prevents hands and feet from getting cold in cold weather and improves blood circulation. Eating millet and ragi roti with ghee doubles its nutrition. These flours also reduce weakness, joint pain and the effects of cold in winter.
