Zero tillage machine is proving to be a boon for the farmers who are lagging behind in wheat sowing due to delay in paddy harvesting. According to agricultural scientists, farmers can save costs by sowing directly with this machine without additional ploughing. This strengthens the roots of the crop and gives bumper yield even if sowing is done till the first week of January.
Chhapra: In Bihar, the wheat cultivation calendar has been affected due to climate change and delay in paddy harvesting. Farmers have not been able to sow wheat yet in many areas of the state including Saran district. Generally, the appropriate time for sowing wheat is considered to be from November to mid-December, but for the farmers who have lagged behind, ‘zero tillage’ technology is no less than a boon. Agricultural scientists say that there is still 15 days left and through this machine, huge profits can be earned by sowing till the first week of January.
Direct sowing without tillage: less cost, more profit
Dr. SK Rai, senior scientist of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Chhapra, said that in traditional farming, after harvesting the paddy, plowing has to be done several times to prepare the field, due to which both time and money are wasted. The biggest feature of the zero tillage machine is that it sows wheat directly in the field containing paddy residue without additional ploughing. In this, separate boxes are made for seeds and manure, which put the manure and seeds together at a certain depth within the soil. This not only saves the cost of ploughing, but also saves a lot of diesel and labour.
Strong roots and protection from weather
According to scientists, when sowing with this machine, the seeds go to the proper depth of the soil, due to which the development of plant roots improves. Due to the strength of the roots, there is less risk of the crop falling even in strong winds. Apart from this, due to proper utilization of field moisture, the growth power of the plants increases and the grains become thicker and heavier, due to which a huge increase in the total production is recorded.
You can take help from Krishi Vigyan Kendra
Farmers who are not able to buy this machine can contact the local Krishi Vigyan Kendra and rent it at minimal charges. Dr. Rai told that this modern technology is being promoted under the ‘Climate Based Farming’ scheme of Bihar Government. Farmers have been advised not to waste time and at all costs complete sowing by the first week of January so that wheat production is not adversely affected.
