The Hyderabad Cyber Crime Department has booked actor Siddharth for making derogatory remarks on Twitter against Olympic bronze medalist Saina Nehwal. According to ANI, in a telephonic conversation, KVM Prasad, Additional DCP, Cyber Crime Wing, Detective Department, Hyderabad said, “A woman named Prerna approached the Cyber Crime Wing and filed a complaint against actor Siddharth for sexist remarks on Saina Nehwal. Based on the complaint, a case has been registered under section 509 of the Indian Penal Code and section 67 of the Information Technology Act, the police officer said. Additional DCP said that investigation has been started and notice will be sent to Siddharth.
Sidharth courted controversy after he made a lewd and sexually derogatory remark online against star badminton player Saina Nehwal after condemning PM Modi’s security failure in Ferozepur on January 5. Nehwal tweeted that the security of the Prime Minister of the country is in danger, and no country can claim it. Stay safe and she condemns the barbaric attack on PM Modi.
Siddharth had made abusive remarks on this tweet of Saina. However, later actor Siddharth apologized to the badminton star. Sharing a post on his Twitter, Siddharth wrote- “Dear Saina, I want to apologize to you for my rude joke that I wrote in response to one of your tweets a few days ago.”
“I may disagree with you on many things, but not even my frustration or anger can justify my tone and words when I read your tweet.
“It wasn’t a great joke to begin with.
“However, the humor was not intended to be malicious, which so many people have attributed to me. I am a staunch feminist ally and I can assure you that my tweets contained no gender and was certainly not a woman. I had no intention of attacking you.
“I hope we leave this behind and move on, and that you will accept my letter. You will always be my champion, Siddhartha.”
