General Knowledge: Do you know that work is underway on a plan to run a high-speed train between two continents under the sea. For this, hundreds of kilometers long tunnel is being built. This will be the world’s longest undersea high-speed train, which will connect two continents. Its speed will be 250–300 KM per hour. Know how this will be possible?
At present, many people take flight journey to go to other countries, because the destination can be reached in less time. Like earlier, it took several days or weeks to travel by ship. But what if travel time in water is also reduced? How would it feel if we could reach other countries and continents faster than flying? You may ask, how is this possible? Now some engineers are of the same opinion. They are planning to build a high speed train line under the sea, connecting the two continents. This hundreds of kilometers long line will connect two distant coasts.
Map changing undersea high-speed train..: This new mega-project aims to build the world’s longest underwater high-speed train route. It will connect the two continents by building a tunnel under the sea. This goal looks simple, but it is very difficult to complete. This can reduce travel time between two landmasses to less than two hours. It will make traveling between two continents easier than traveling through a crowded city.
This undersea rail link will be much longer and deeper than the Channel Tunnel between the UK and France. It currently extends to 50 km. Engineers are planning to run trains at speeds of 250–300 km per hour through the tunnel spanning hundreds of kilometers. It has become one of the most ambitious transportation projects ever attempted. This is probably a proposed project to connect Asia and North America.

Changes coming from this project?..: Trade routes will be available directly connecting major ports. Business travel will become easier. There will be no need for short haul flights. It will become easier for people to live and work in different continents. Governments and investors will view this route not just as a transportation facility, but as a strategic connection that will transform economic and political relations between the two regions.
How will the tunnel be constructed?..: Deep-sea tunneling: Engineers will use heavy tunnel-boring machines in the deepest parts of the ocean. These machines will slowly dig the rocky soil below the sea level. Two long, circular tunnels will be built for the running of trains. The machines will have to work under very high pressure and harsh conditions. A tunnel will be made of concrete near the beach. It will be made in large parts and taken to water. When they reach the right place, they will be lowered into a tunnel dug in the seabed. By connecting each part, a strong, water-tight tunnel will be created.
Technical Challenges..: Engineers must solve many problems to work safely under the sea. Water pressure will be very high at depths greater than 100 meters. Not only this, steel and concrete will have to be protected from rusting. Earthquakes keep occurring in some sea level areas. Fire safety, escape routes and cross-passages are essential. The project will have to be started with environmental protection under the supervision of marine biologists. Emergency exits every few hundred meters are necessary to maintain air flow and safety systems. Ventilation shafts and technical rooms will have to be installed.
