Delhi-Dehradun Expressway is being built to reduce the distance from Delhi to Dehradun. Also, it is being equipped with various modern features. Earlier the time to go from Delhi to Dehradun was 5-6 hours, which after the opening of this expressway will reduce to only two and a half hours.
This expressway starts from Akshardham Temple in Delhi and goes to Dehradun via Loni, Baghpat, Muzaffarnagar, Shamli, Saharanpur. At present, a 31.6 km stretch from Akshardham to EPE (Eastern Peripheral Expressway) near Mavikalan in Baghpat has been opened for trial. Five toll plazas and 12 interchanges are being built on this expressway from Delhi to Dehradun.

There is still time for the opening of Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, but the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has prepared the proposal for toll tax. However, there will be no toll fee for going from the expressway to the Eastern Peripheral Expressway (EPE) in Baghpat. Whereas in the possible toll rates, if traveling by car, you will have to pay toll tax of Rs 670. At the same time, 1085 toll tax will have to be paid on light cargo vehicle (LCV).
If we talk about buses and trucks, then toll tax of Rs 2275 will be levied on Delhi to Dehradun Expressway. According to NHAL officials, the proposed toll rates will be implemented once the highway is fully opened. At present, two sections of Delhi-Dehradun Expressway were opened for vehicles on 30 November. This 212 km long Greenfield Access Controlled Expressway will start from Akshardham and go to Dehradun via Baghpat, Shamli, Saharanpur.
This 6-lane expressway, to be built at a cost of Rs 12 thousand crores, is being built in four parts. The foundation stone of Delhi-Dehradun Expressway was laid for the first time by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on 26 February 2021 and Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid another foundation stone on 4 December 2021. This expressway is being built under the Bharatmala project, which was to be ready by 2024.
Now it is expected that it will open completely by February 2026, due to which the travel time between Delhi and Dehradun will reduce to about two and a half hours. With the construction of Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, people’s travel will become easy and comfortable. At the same time, doing business from Delhi to Dehradun will also become quite easy. Saharanpur’s business will also gain wings. Earlier, people had to face traffic jams to go to Dehradun, but now the elevated road built through the mountains will reduce that 1 hour journey to 15 minutes.
After the opening of the expressway till Baghpat, now the part between Saharanpur to Dehradun on which construction work is going on at a rapid pace. However, 95% of the construction work has been completed and soon 5% of the construction work will also be completed. Therefore, the possibility of inauguration of this expressway in February of the new year is being expressed.
