Drinking adequate amount of water is very beneficial to stay healthy. Let us tell you that 40 percent of the human body is made up of water, hence water becomes essential for the body in every sense. Water provides power to the brain, heart, muscles and digestive power to function properly. Lack of water in the body also causes many diseases. Now some people drink water the whole day, but still that water becomes not nectar for them but the root of diseases. A big reason for this is the right time and way of consuming water. Water used in wrong way and of wrong quality invites many diseases. Now the question is, when and how many times should we drink water in a day? Know what Ayurveda says-
How often to drink water during the day
First of all water should be drunk in the morning. Water drunk in Brahma Muhurta is like nectar and cleans the stomach and intestines from inside. You should drink at least one full glass of lukewarm water as soon as you wake up in the morning. This water helps in flushing out all the toxins accumulated at night, awakens the intestines and helps in bowel movement.
You can drink it even before eating
Water can be drunk even before meals. Lukewarm water can be drunk 1 hour before meals. Water drunk an hour before prepares the stomach for digestion of food and also helps in balancing the acid produced in the stomach. This will also provide relief from the problem of loss of appetite.
When should you not drink water?
Drinking water with food is considered very bad as it hinders digestion, but a limited amount of water can be drunk with food. Ayurveda says that 2-4 sips of water can be taken in between meals. It does not reduce the digestive fire but helps in digestion, but keep in mind that the water should be lukewarm. Cold water can slow down the digestive fire.
Water should be drunk about 1 hour after meals. Ayurveda believes that water drunk immediately after eating is like poison, which reduces the fire power of the stomach, due to which the food in the stomach starts rotting instead of being digested and causes constipation and gas problems. Within 1 hour the work of digestion is almost completed and after that the water taken prevents constipation and helps in delivering the food juice to the rest of the body.
One should avoid drinking excess water in the evening, as it affects the appetite at night. Drink less and lukewarm water after sunset. One should avoid drinking cold water. Also, reduce water intake at night. This causes swelling and increase in phlegm in the body.
Now the question is how to drink water. Water should always be drunk while sitting comfortably and sipping it peacefully. Drink water only when you feel thirsty and avoid drinking cold water.
