It is noteworthy that the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) had recently issued an Emergency Airworthiness Directive, on the basis of which DGCA has implemented mandatory modification for Airbus A318, A319, A320 and A321 planes. Its purpose was to remove possible technical problems related to security and to keep the flights completely safe. By 29 November 2025, IndiGo, Air India and Air India Express have submitted their respective reports to DGCA.
Indigo updated all its aircraft
Due to this modification, Indigo has been affected the most. 200 aircraft of IndiGo stuck in modification. According to the latest report, IndiGo has updated the elevator and aileron computer (ELAC) software of all its 200 aircraft. The updation work was completed in Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Kolkata bases. According to the data received by DGCA from airlines, due to this updation, about 184 flights of Indigo were delayed, but not a single flight was cancelled.
Air India upgrades 100 planes
Whereas, if we talk about Air India, due to this upgradation, 113 planes were grounded, out of which 104 planes were A320 NEO, the remaining 9 planes were A320 CEO. The airline has completed the upgrade work of 100 out of these 113 aircraft. Of the 13 aircraft which are yet to be upgraded, 4 planes are in the maintenance base and this modification is not applicable to the remaining 9 planes. Software modification work in Air India planes has been done at the base stations of Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Chennai.
Updation of two planes of Air India Express pending
Around 25 planes of Air India Express were grounded due to updation of elevator and aileron computer (ELAC) software. Air India Express has done this work at its bases in Delhi, Bengaluru and Chennai. As per the updates so far, software upgrade of 23 out of 25 planes of the airline has been completed. Airlines had to cancel a total of four flights due to this updation. According to the airline, the remaining two planes are currently under maintenance for redelivery.
