Ambala. Punjab and Haryana are the storehouse of food grains for the country. Here crops like Basmati rice, mustard, millet, wheat are grown and then they are exported. Nowadays the winter season is going on and wheat crop has been planted in the fields. However, there has been no rain in this winter season for the last two months and the concern of the farmers has increased. In such a situation, now experts are giving necessary tips to the farmers to take care of the wheat crop.
Local 18 talked to Dr. Rajendra Singh, agricultural expert of Ambala Agricultural Science Center in this regard. He told that before sowing any crop, we have to pay attention to what the crop needs the most. He said that mainly the crop needs two things. Water and nutrients. Agricultural expert Dr. Rajendra Singh told that he said that farmers should carefully check the moisture while sowing wheat, because it helps in the growth of the plant and along with this, adequate fertilizer should be applied while paying attention to the adequate amount of nutritional elements.
Agricultural expert Dr. Rajendra Singh says that farmers often pay too much attention to urea fertilizer, but farmers should first get their soil tested and then use only whatever is needed. He said that many times there is a deficiency of nitrogen, potassium or zinc and sulfur in the soil of the field, then it is detected only after testing and in case of zinc deficiency, farmers can add 5 to 7 kg of zinc per acre to the wheat crop, due to which their wheat grains will also be shiny and thick and the yield of the crop will also increase to a large extent.
He told that farmers should irrigate wheat 21 days after sowing, because after 21 days, the roots of the sowing plant start emerging and it needs sufficient moisture at that time for growth. He told that along with this, farmers also have to face a lot of problems regarding weed control. In such a situation, farmers can spray pendimethyl on the second day of wheat sowing, which will control the problem of Mandusi. He told that some people say that this weed control was not successful even after spraying, in such a situation I want to tell them that such problem occurs due to insufficient moisture in the field, hence before using pendimethalin, definitely check the moisture.
He told that if there are still a lot of weeds growing in your field between crops, then farmers can use ‘Leader’ herbicide in the wheat crop. This is used 20-25 days after sowing or when the weeds have 2-4 leaves. In which 13.3 grams of the drug should be mixed with 200 ml of surfactant and sprayed per acre, especially for the control of wild oats (oats) and other broad leaf weeds.
He said that in the winter season, the farmers first have to check the moisture of their fields for irrigation and if there is frost in the field, then the farmers can irrigate. Because the water in the field dries up during the winter season, in such a situation fresh water works to eliminate the frost. He told that there is no need for farmers to panic and excessive fog does not have a bad effect on the wheat crop, because low temperature is required for the wheat crop to grow and this only helps in the growth of the plant. He said that before irrigation, farmers have to check whether there will be rain in between. If the weather is clear then he can irrigate the wheat every month after seeing the moisture.
He told that along with this, farmers have to make 5 kg urea per acre round for fertilizer and spray it on the wheat crop, so that the plant will get adequate nutrition through the leaves and it will grow rapidly.
