Bans Geet Saga: In the rich folk culture of Chhattisgarh, Bamboo Geet-Gatha is known as a wonderful and unique art, which has been preserved by the Yadav community for centuries. This folk art is not just music but a living flow of bravery, history, traditions and folklore. This tradition, which was becoming extinct in the era of modernity, got new energy when for the first time in Bilaspur, more than 150 bamboo singers and instrumentalists performed together on stage and created a unique record. This grand function organized at Pandit Devkinandan Dixit Sabha Bhawan continued till late night, where bamboo tunes, folk songs and collective voices mesmerized the audience.
Great presentation by more than 150 artists
In this function organized by Bamboo Geet-Gatha Academy Chhattisgarh, more than 150 bamboo singers and players from across the state gathered on one stage. Collective bamboo playing and presentation of ballad became the first event of its kind in the cultural history of Chhattisgarh.
Bamboo tunes echoed throughout the day
This program started at 2 pm on 7th December 2025 at Pandit Devkinandan Dixit Sabha Bhawan and continued till late night. The echo of folk tunes and ballads in the entire campus was such that the audience kept clapping and dancing with enthusiasm again and again.
Proud celebration of Chhattisgarh’s identity
Chief guest of the function, Beltara MLA Sushant Shukla said that events like Baans Geet-Gatha give a new identity to the identity, culture and folk tradition of Chhattisgarh. He said that this event will prove to be a milestone for cultural conservation in the future.
Padmashree Phoolbasan Yadav appreciated
Special guest Padmashree social worker Phoolbasan Yadav said that he felt proud to see bamboo artists on such a large scale at one place. He praised the working style of Dr. Somnath Yadav, the main organizer of the event.
Bamboo song on the verge of extinction, conservation necessary
President of the Academy, Dr. Somnath Yadav told that the bamboo song is sung and played only in Chhattisgarh in India. This oral tradition presents everything from Mahabharata, heroic lyrics to the circumstances of modern times through folk songs. He demanded that just like other folk arts get a platform, bamboo artists should be given a platform in government programs.
Participation of artists from across the state
Artists from many districts including Bilaspur, Mungeli, Janjgir, Balodabazar, Kawardha, Bemetara, Korba, Pendra participated in the function. The program started with a group presentation based on Veer Lorik, in which 150 artists sang and played bamboo together. After this, 40 parties presented different stories based on their respective historical events.
