Saharsa district is known for its cultural and educational heritage. A golden chapter of this heritage is Shri Bhagirath Primary cum Secondary Sanskrit School located in Chainpur. This school is considered to be the oldest and historical Sanskrit school not only of Saharsa but of the entire district. This school has kept the flame of Sanskrit language burning for years and has given such scholars to the society. Who has brought glory to Saharsa across the country in the field of education, administration and literature.
This is the same school from where, after receiving education, many students went on to become the Vice Chancellor of Darbhanga University, while many others reached high administrative positions like Sales Tax Commissioner. This school has not only been a center of education, but also a school of knowledge, values and discipline. The people of Saharsa still proudly take the name of this school which has given direction to generations. Because the students from here have given new thinking and new energy to the society.
Was also the director of University Almanac
School teacher Chhotu Jha says that many scholars who have graduated from this school have served in different parts of the country, one of the prominent names among them is Kashinath Mishra, who has been the Vice Chancellor of Darbhanga University and has also been the director of the University Almanac. Apart from this, many great scholars like Mahamahopadhyay Pandit Amrit Nath Jha, Mahamahopadhyay Pandit Arjun Jha, Pandit Shri Phulkant Jha Pushkar, who was the Principal of the University, are the contribution of this school. Not only this, Vijay Kumar Jha, who has been the Director of Secondary Education, Durgakant Jha, who has been the Director of Resonance. The present Principal Umesh Kumar Jha, and Jaidev Jha, who has worked on the post of Sales Tax Commissioner, all of them progressed after taking education from this Sanskrit school, apart from these, there are dozens of scholars who have raised the name of Saharsa in the country and the world by studying from this school.
More than 300 students enrolled in the school
Despite such a glorious tradition, today the condition of this school is worrying. Teachers say that more than 300 students are enrolled in the school, but there is lack of basic facilities. The school neither has a proper building nor a good seating arrangement for the students. Due to the indifference of the government, the condition of Sanskrit schools is getting worse day by day. Sanskrit is not just a language, but a scientific and philosophical language, in which a vast store of knowledge is hidden. Today, when people are adopting Sanskrit in the race of modernity, We are forgetting it, then it is very important to keep it alive and promote it. For this, both the government and the society will have to come forward. If this historical school gets proper facilities and support, then once again the country can get great scholars and administrators from here. This heritage of Saharsa is demanding protection and respect.
