Gill could score only 32 runs in three matches of the T20 series against South Africa.
In the Game Plan program on Geostar, Sanjay Bangar said that Gill seems comfortable on the balls going outside the off stump but is not able to play the straight balls. Bangar said, ‘Initially his footwork was quite positive but in more than 28 matches, if he hits three or four boundaries, he is not able to play straight balls. His strike rate against straight balls is very bad. Praising young opener Abhishek Sharma, he said, ‘He plays with a very aggressive mindset. He has the ability to beat the ball, especially over the covers, which is a special skill.
