In December 2020, Maruti Suzuki India announced that it would increase the prices of its various models from January 2021. The car manufacturing company had said that the prices of the vehicles have been greatly affected due to input costs. In such a situation, it has become necessary that some of its weight should be passed on to the customers. The company has taken this step when during December 2020, it has registered a 20 percent increase in its total sales on a year-on-year basis. Maruti Suzuki’s total production in December 2020 increased by 33.78 per cent to 1,55,127 units.

Home sales up 17.8 percent during December 2020
In December 2020, Maruti sold a total of 1,60,226 vehicles. The company sold 1,33,296 cars in December 2019. Domestic sales of Maruti increased by 17.8 percent to 1,46,480 in December 2020. In 2019 December, this figure was 1,24,375 units. In December 2020, sales of small cars like Alto and S-Preso increased by 4.4 percent to 24,927. Sales of compact vehicles such as Swift, Celerio, Ignis, Baleno and Dzire increased by 18.2 percent to 77,641. However, sales of mid-size sedan Ciaz declined by 28.9 per cent to 1,270 units in December 2020. Sales of Utility Tea Vehicles (SUVs) such as the Vitara Brezza, Escross and Ertiga increased by 8 per cent to 25,701.
