Kyiv, Sixteen people, including senior interior ministry officials and two children, were killed in a helicopter crash near Ukraine’s capital Kyiv. The police of Ukraine gave this information. Ukraine’s national police chief Ihor Klymenko said the emergency service helicopter crashed in Brovary, an eastern suburb of Kiev. Among those who lost their lives, nine people were aboard the helicopter.
According to the police, Interior Minister Denis Monastirsky and Deputy Minister Kirylo Timoshenko have died in the helicopter crash. Officials had earlier said that 22 people, including 10 children, were injured. The helicopter crashed near ‘kindergarten’.
News agency Reuters quoted the deputy head of the Ukrainian presidential office as saying that the plane crashed in the town of Brovary, about 20 km northeast of Kiev, while children and staff were inside the kindergarten.
Local media, citing a police spokesman, said those killed included Interior Minister Denis Monastirsky and his deputy. At the same time, the head of the Kyiv regional administration, Oleksiy Kuleba, said on his Telegram channel that all students and staff have been taken out of the building. He said that police and doctors are working at the accident site.
