Nowadays, one never knows when the game of life will end. In the last few years, sudden deaths of young people have created a lot of fear and anxiety among the people. Now sudden deaths are not limited only to elderly people, but people of 40-45 years of age have also become involved in it. The surprising thing is that more of these deaths are occurring due to heart attack and sudden cardiac arrest. A healthy, looking young man who is completely fit is also suddenly dying of a heart attack. A recent AIIMS study shows that more than half of the total sudden deaths examined during a year were in people below 45 years of age. Many of these people looked completely fit and healthy. Even such healthy looking people suddenly fall down while walking, at home or while dancing without any signs or symptoms. He died due to lack of timely treatment.
This study was published in the Indian Journal of Medical Research. This study was conducted by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) in collaboration with the Pathology and Forensic Medicine departments of AIIMS (Delhi) between May 2023 and April 2024. When the post-mortem of these dead people was done, out of 2214 post-mortem cases, 180 cases, about 8.1% of the dead people, fell in the category of sudden death. Of these, there were 103 cases in young adults aged 18 to 45 years. This was 57.2 percent of the total percentage. The average age of all of them was 33.6 years. The surprising thing was that the number of men among them was more.
Cause of death is heart disease
The cause of all these deaths in the study was heart disease. According to the author of the study, Dr. Sudhir Gupta, the reason for these deaths in young people were heart related diseases. Of these, heart related diseases like coronary artery disease were found responsible for 42.6 percent of the cases. In many people, no signs or symptoms were seen before and no disease was detected in anyone.
At what time did these deaths occur and what symptoms were seen?
The post mortem report also shows that most of these people died at night or early in the morning, either while traveling or at home. After talking to the family members, it was found that some common symptoms like sudden fainting, chest pain, difficulty in breathing etc. were observed. Only a few young adults had pre-existing conditions like diabetes or high blood pressure.
Not only this, upon investigation it was also revealed that lifestyle related risks were also mainly responsible for such people. Many people used to smoke and consume alcohol. In this study, no connection of these sudden deaths was found with Covid infection or vaccination.
Dr. K., Chairman of PSRI Heart Institute. Of. Talwar says that the results of the study are very shocking, which highlights the worrying increase in coronary artery disease. In such a situation, it is very important that people keep getting genetic testing done and screening of family members, so that heart disease can be detected in time. Youth should reduce the consumption of tobacco and alcohol. Sometimes the reason behind such sudden deaths can also be the result of some hidden disease.
