Winter Health Tips: Back and joint pain is a common problem in winter, but grandmother’s home remedy of gum made it easier. Regular use strengthened the body and provided continuous relief from pain. This natural remedy works without any medicine, thereby maintaining lifestyle and mobility in winter.
When winters started, the first effect in my body was severe back pain. As soon as cold air came, my back would get stiff and it would become difficult to work throughout the day. Every time I felt that perhaps this pain will never go away. Then I remembered an old remedy given by my grandmother – gum. In my childhood, grandmother often used to say that eat a little gum every day in winter, the body will remain strong like iron.
Initially, I thought this might be one of those old-fashioned things, but the pain increased so much that I accepted Grandma’s advice. Grandma used to tell me that gum is a natural resin that comes out of trees and works to keep the body warm from inside. Especially for women, it is no less than a magical medicine. Fatigue, weakness, joint pain – its effect is visible on everything.
I started feeling the difference in the very first week. Where earlier it was difficult to straighten the waist in the cold of the morning, now the body started feeling light and warm. Grandmother used to say that gum increases warmth in the blood and strengthens the bones. Perhaps this was the reason why in olden times, gum laddus were definitely fed to new mothers after delivery.

Like my grandmother, I also made gum laddus with ghee, jaggery and dry fruits and started eating one laddu every morning. I liked its taste and started maintaining energy in the body. Lethargy and fatigue in cold have reduced. Even the back pain caused after sitting in the office for a long time gradually started reducing.
According to doctors, gum is rich in calcium, protein and fiber, which make the body strong. Digestive power improves and blood circulation also improves. Earlier I used to shiver even in small cold, now my body feels warm and active despite the falling temperature.
There are many ways to consume gum in winter – laddu, panjiri, mixing it in milk or soaking it overnight and consuming it in the morning. But I found grandmother’s desi method to be the most effective. The aroma of roasted gum and dry fruits in homemade ghee gives a lovely feeling of warmth in the cold.
Even today, when I have a slight pain in my waist, I remember that smile of my grandmother, when she used to say – “Daughter, eat gum, what harm will winter do?” In fact, this recipe of my grandmother has become the biggest help of winter for me. If you are also troubled by back pain or weakness in winter, then definitely try this natural remedy – maybe you too will get to see the same wonders.
