Happy Birthday George Lohmann: Today (June 2) is the birthday of England fast bowler George Lohmann. Lohmann took 112 wickets in 18 Tests for England at an average of 10.75. He was also the first bowler to take 9 wickets in a Test innings.
New Delhi. Today (June 2) is the birthday of England fast bowler George Lohmann Birthday, who took 112 wickets in 18 Tests and 1841 wickets in 293 first-class matches. Lohmann’s international career may have been 10 years. But his fear was always in the minds of the world’s legendary batsmen. Lohmann was born on 2 June 1865 in London. He made his Test debut for England in 1886 at the age of 21. But in the first two matches of this Test series against Australia, this bowler got only one wicket.
Lohmann proved his mettle in the third Test at The Oval. He took 7 for 36 in the first innings of this Test and five for 68 in the second. England won this match by an innings margin. After this performance, Lohmann’s place in the England team was confirmed and he never looked back. They went on making records one by one.
Lohmann wreaked havoc with his bowling during England’s tour of South Africa in 1896. He took 15 wickets in the first Test of the series in Port Elizabeth. This was the first time that a bowler had taken 15 wickets in a match in Tests. Lohmann showed the way to the pavilion to 7 batsmen in the first innings of this test and 8 in the second. In the fourth innings of the match, the hosts were reduced to just 30 runs. This is South Africa’s lowest score in Tests. The ICC also remembered this bowler by sharing the video.

Lohmann first bowler to take 9 wickets in an innings
The success achieved in the first Test against D.Africa was maintained by Lohmann in the second as well. In the first innings of the second Test in Johannesburg, Lohmann made a world record by taking 9 wickets. This was the first time a bowler took 9 wickets in an innings of a Test. In the second innings, this English bowler took three wickets. Then he took a total of 12 wickets in the Johannesburg Test. Lohmann also took 8 wickets in the third and final Test of the series. In this way, he took a total of 35 wickets in the three-Test series at an average of just 5.80. In that series, Lohmann took 35 wickets while bowling 104 overs. Then he took a wicket on every 14th ball.

Lohmann took the fastest 100 wickets in Tests
Lohmann took a total of 112 wickets in 18 Tests for England. He took 10 or more wickets five times and five or more wickets in an innings nine times. His strike rate in Test career was 34.10. Which is still the best. He is the fastest bowler to take 100 wickets in Tests. He achieved this feat in 16 Tests. Lohman’s performance in first-class cricket was also excellent. He took a total of 1841 wickets in 293 matches. He took five or more wickets 176 times.
