Today is Constitution Day. It is impossible that Hazaribagh is not mentioned on this occasion. Hazaribagh has played a very important role in framing the Constitution. These two people have played an important role in the Constitution Drafting Committee.
Hazaribagh: Constitution Day is being celebrated across the country today. It is natural to mention Hazaribagh on this occasion, because Hazaribagh has played a remarkable role in the development of the country before and after independence. Hazaribagh’s first MP, late Babu Ram Narayan Singh and former Chief Minister of unified Bihar, late KB Sahay were members of the Constituent Assembly. Both of them registered their important presence in the process of constitution making.
Dr. Pramod Singh, retired professor of the Department of Political Science of Vinoba Bhave University, who is the grandson of Babu Ram Narayan Singh, says that his grandfather had given an important suggestion in the Constituent Assembly that the Prime Minister of the country should be called Pradhan Servant and the bureaucrats should be called public servants, so that the monarchical mentality cannot enter democracy. He had also insisted on defining the cabinet as a body of servants.
He also said that many of the visionary things that our grandfather had said are visible in reality today, it is a matter of pride for us. Babu Ram Narayan Singh had also advocated strengthening of Panchayati Raj in the Constituent Assembly years ago.
It is painful to question the Constitution
In December 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had paid tribute to late Babu Ram Narayan Singh in a public meeting in Barhi. He had saluted this land by mentioning Hazaribagh’s contribution in the making of the Constitution and the freedom struggle. However, Dr. Pramod Singh also expresses his sadness that if the ideas of Babu Ram Narayan Singh had been implemented properly, many of the discrepancies seen today in the society might not have happened. He says that today when questions are being raised again and again on the Constitution, this situation is painful.
This is a proud moment for Hazaribagh
Hazaribagh’s senior journalist Murari Singh says that it is a matter of great pride for the district that two personalities like Babu Ram Narayan Singh and KB Sahay made their invaluable contribution in the making of the Constitution. It is a moment of pride for the people of Hazaribagh that these great leaders of their land played an active role in drafting the supreme text of the country, the Constitution. The Constitution is not just a book, but a great text which gives respect to all religions and is a true symbol of India’s secularism.
