Raipur. The craze of kitchen gardening and pot forming is continuously increasing in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. Garden lovers wish to plant fruit plants in their home, in which pomegranate is one of the most liked plants, but often people do not understand how to plant pomegranate in a pot and what kind of soil or fertilizer should be used for it. Regarding this, Raipur’s well-known gardening expert Kunal Raj has shared special tips with Local 18 for pot forming of pomegranate, which can prove to be very useful in the current season.
According to gardening expert Kunal Raj, to plant pomegranate in a pot, a slightly different method has to be adopted, not like normal plants. He told that the roots of pomegranate require more space to spread, hence the size of the pot should be at least 20 to 24 inches. If drums are available, they can be cut in half and two big pots can be prepared from them. A larger pot not only provides space for the roots to spread but can also be filled with adequate amounts of soil and compost, which speeds up the growth of the plant and also provides better fruit production.
black soil is not mandatory
He further said that pomegranate can be planted in any type of soil. Black soil is not mandatory for planting it, it is important to keep in mind that the soil should not be too smooth or hard. Due to this, the roots are not able to spread and the plant remains weak. Pomegranate plants must be weeded every 15 days so that the soil remains soft and the plant can get proper nutrients.
Way to protect plants from insects
Expert Kunal says that compost, cow dung and DAP is considered the best combination for pomegranate plant. These fertilizers strengthen the plant and increase its ability to bear flowers and fruits. The biggest threat to potted plants is from insects that eat leaves. For this, an insecticide called Trycel is most effective. Just mix 4-5 drops of Trycel in one liter of water and spray. If there is no control even with this, then next time you should mix 6 drops and spray. Regular spray keeps the plant safe and the leaves remain green.
He further said that pomegranate plants planted in the ground bear fruits quickly while potted plants take some time but once the plant gets established, it starts bearing fruits within a year. Pomegranate plants are easily available in all the nurseries of Raipur. A small plant is available for Rs 150, a medium plant for Rs 250 and a large plant for Rs 350. This cold season is considered most suitable for planting pomegranate. In such a situation, this is the right time for those who want to enjoy sweet pomegranates from the tree growing on their terrace, courtyard or balcony.
