New Delhi. Last week there was sudden operational chaos in IndiGo. Which included problems with crew roster, flight schedule and communication. This put thousands of passengers in great trouble. Delays, cancellations and misinformation led to a flood of complaints, following which the Civil Aviation Ministry summoned the airline and asked tough questions. The ministry made it clear that such lapses will not be tolerated and passenger convenience is the top priority.
Government’s strict stance
Detailed investigation of the matter is going on and in this sequence the Ministry held a review meeting with IndiGo management. The airline’s CEO Peter Albers was again called to the ministry, where he was asked to explain his poor management. The CEO said that till December 6, 100 percent refunds of the affected flights have been completed. However, the ministry did not seem satisfied with this and issued strict instructions to complete the remaining refunds and baggage handover immediately.
Order for 10 percent route reduction
To stabilize operations and prevent frequent cancellations, the ministry has ordered a 10 percent reduction in IndiGo’s total routes. This step has been taken with the aim of reducing the operational burden of the airline and improving the service level. However, the government also clarified that despite the cut, IndiGo will have to continue flights to all its destinations, so that the route network is not disrupted.
Main emphasis on passenger convenience
The ministry has made it mandatory to follow all government rules related to fare capping, timely refunds, transparent information and baggage services. Officials warned that if the guidelines are not followed, more strict actions will be taken. Experts believe that this step of the government is a strong message not only for IndiGo but for the entire aviation sector that compromise with passenger interests will not be accepted.
