Puri told the Rajya Sabha, ‘Usually the credit period of various government departments is 15 to 30 days. No interest is also payable for not making payment within this credit period. Air India has recently taken a loan of Rs 225 crore from a domestic borrower for a short period so that it can refinance its old loan.

Air India has assets worth about 46 thousand crores
According to the provisional figures for the financial year 2019-20, there is a total debt of Rs 38,366.39 crore on Air India. This is the amount after the airline transferred Rs 22,064 crore to the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) of Air India Assets Holding Limited in the financial year 2019-20 itself. The total fixed assets of Air India as on 31 March 2020 are approximately Rs 45,863.27 crore. This includes Air India land, buildings, aircraft fleet and engines.
Explain that preparations for the disinvestment of Air India have been going on for a long time. In the General Budget 2021-22, the government has set a target of Rs 1.75 lakh crore through Air India Disinvestment, in which the amount coming through the disinvestment of Air India will contribute a lot.

The interests of employees will be taken care of after disinvestment
Recently, when asked whether Air India employees will continue after disinvestment or not, the government in its reply said that Air India employees will be protected based on the guidance of DIPAM. The current disinvestment process is in the initial stage. Air India has incurred a loss of about Rs 7,982.83 crore in FY 2020.
