This man posted on Threads under the name “nthmonkey” and said that his wife’s brother had died of a heart attack and the hospital had sent a bill of about Rs 1.6 crore for just four hours of treatment. The family did not have medical insurance, so he decided to investigate the bill himself. He took the help of an AI chatbot named Claude, which was created by Anthropic company. Claude analyzed every charge in the bill in detail and caught many mistakes. The hospital had charged twice for the same procedure, once for the main operation and second time for minor parts. Not only this, some billing codes were wrong and the ventilator charge was also levied for the wrong day.
AI prepared answer sent to the hospital
The AI chatbot not only pointed out the mistakes, but also prepared a professional letter and gave it to the person, citing all the errors and warning of legal action. When the hospital saw the letter, it reduced the bill to $33,000 i.e. approximately Rs 27 lakh. The man said Claude’s $20 per month subscription turned out to be the most profitable investment of his life.
