Officials admitted that most of the hotels in the district still do not provide complete information about the tariffs on their websites, due to which arbitrariness is seen in the rates. Many hotels harass tourists by showing different rates in the morning and evening. After receiving continuous complaints, the administration has not only tightened the rules but has also made preparations for surprise inspection during the season.
Tourism department will run the challan
Nainital District Tourism Officer Atul Bhandari said that a circular has been sent to every hotel. It is clearly written that it is mandatory to display the tariff on the website and in the hotel premises. Action will be taken against violation of rules. He said that transparency regarding hotel rates is very important during the tourist season, because Nainital gets flooded with tourists in the last week of December.
Action will be taken if rate list is not shown
Under the instructions of the administration, hotel owners will have to display the complete rate list on the hotel premises, reception and digital platforms. Apart from this, charging more amount than the tariff deposited with the Tourism Department will be considered illegal. The administration says that the aim is to provide quality experience to the tourists without any hassle.
Hotel Association also came forward
Hotel Association President Digvijay Singh Bisht said that complete preparations have been made from his side also. He said that we will also display the full tariff along with the name of the hotel on our websites and reception. With this, tourists coming from outside will get immediate information and there will be no situation of bargaining or confusion. He told that there are already rules regarding hotel rates in Nainital. The rate list of all the hotels registered in the Tourism Department is stored in the department and it is illegal to charge more than that. He also said that tourism was affected after the Pahalgam attack, due to which discounted rates were implemented. There has been no increase in rates this year, but rooms will be available at fixed and full rates. According to the facilities, hotels in Nainital are in many categories. Some have basic facilities, some have lake view and some have luxury services. Their tariff ranges from Rs 1500 to Rs 15000. This rule will not only increase transparency but will also prevent problems like overrate and last moment extra charges during the season. This will provide a better experience to families, couples and other tourists visiting Nainital. The administration has clearly said that if any hotel is found acting arbitrarily, immediate action will be taken against it. This is being considered a big step in view of the tourist season.
