Goa Night Club Fire: The deportation of the Luthra Brothers from Thailand, who were responsible for the death of 25 people in the horrific fire that broke out in a night club in Goa on December 6, is almost complete. Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra can be brought to India in the next 24 to 48 hours. A few hours after the accident, Saurabh and Gaurav, owners of Birch by Romeo Lane in Arpora, Goa, fled to Thailand. After this the Indian Embassy in Bangkok started coordination with Thai authorities.
Remove legal obstacles to deportation
Sources said that the exile of Luthra Brothers from Thailand is almost complete. All legal and procedural hurdles have been removed. Thai authorities have provided full cooperation and acted swiftly after both had their visas canceled and were detained. According to sources, officials are working in close coordination with Indian agencies to ensure smooth transfer. A multi-agency team from India is monitoring every stage of deportation. This includes officers related to investigation and immigration. A source said that they want to avoid any delay or legal complications.
How did Indian authorities take immediate action?
Investigation by Goa Police revealed that while the efforts to extinguish the fire and rescue the trapped people were going on, the two brothers had booked flights to Thailand. According to officials, the booking was done through the travel portal at 1:17 am on December 7, when Goa Police and Fire Services were trying to control the fire. After this Interpol Blue Corner Notice was issued.
Indian authorities canceled the passports of both under Section 10A of the Passport Act. This automatically ended their legal immigration status in Thailand. According to Thailand’s Immigration Act BE 2522, it is mandatory to detain foreigners without 92 valid documents. After the visas were cancelled, the Luthra brothers became illegal foreign citizens in Thailand. This resulted in his detention and opened the way for expedited deportation under Thai immigration laws. Sources told CNN-StuffUnknownthat the deportation is being done as per established legal procedures related to Interpol. With this, Thailand will send them to their country of origin, as is international standards. Local court formalities related to detention and deportation have been completed. This has cleared the way for physical delivery to the Indian authorities.
