Goa Assembly Election 2022: The sitting MLA of Bicholim Assembly seat is Rajesh Tulsidas Patnekar. In the 2017 assembly elections, Rajesh Patnekar of Bharatiya Janata Party defeated Naresh Sawal of Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party. In the 2012 elections, Naresh Saval had won over Rajesh Patnekar as an independent candidate. Later he joined MGP.
In the 2017 assembly elections, a total of 89.96 percent votes were cast in Bicholim. Rajesh Patnekar of BJP defeated Naresh Saval by a total of 666 votes. Rajesh Patnekar got 10,654 votes while Naresh Saval got 9,988 votes. On the other hand, Manohar Shirodkar of the Congress party got 1,761 votes. AAP’s Sainath Patekar stood fourth with 324 votes. By the way, there was a tough competition in 2017. In such a situation, this time the BJP will have to work hard to save this seat.
The number of women voters is more
Bicholim assembly seat comes under North Goa Lok Sabha constituency. The total number of voters in the year 2017 was 25,958. There were 23,352 valid votes. In the year 2022 assembly elections, there are a total of 27,451 voters, in which the number of males is 13,564, while that of females is 13887. There are more women voters than men here.
History of Bicholim Assembly Constituency
Kusumakar Kaskede of Maharashtrawadi Govantak Party was elected MLA from Bicholim assembly seat in the 1963 assembly elections. After this, in the elections of 1967, 1972, 1977 also the candidates of Maharashtrawadi Govantak Party won from this seat. In 1980, for the first time, independent candidate Harish Jayante defeated MGP’s candidate. Later Harish joined the Congress and won the 1984 elections as well. In the 2002 and 2007 elections, BJP captured this seat. In 2012, Naresh Saval defeated BJP candidate Rajesh Patnekar. Then in 2017 again BJP put this seat back in its bag.
