Glimpses of Gujarati tradition seen in Anant and Radhika’s engagement, ceremony of Gol-Dhana and Chunri

Mumbai. Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) Chairman and MD Mukesh Ambani and Nita Ambani’s younger son Anant Ambani and his fiancee Radhika Merchant got engaged on Thursday. There was a glimpse of Gujarati traditions in the engagement ceremony. Traditional rituals like Gol-Dhana and Chunri method were performed. After this, Anant and Radhika put rings on each other. Let us tell you that the Mehndi ceremony of these two took place on Tuesday. Gol-Dhana and Chunri method is a centuries old Gujarati tradition. The Hindu families of Gujarat are adopting it even today. It is celebrated like a traditional festival.

The literal meaning of Gol-Dhana is the seed of jaggery and coriander. It is a pre-wedding ceremony similar to an engagement in Gujarati traditions. These items are distributed at the groom’s house during the program. The bride’s family brings gifts and sweets to the groom’s house and then the couple exchange rings. After this the couple takes blessings from their elders.

Earlier on Thursday evening, Isha Ambani along with other family members reached the Merchant residence and invited Radhika and her family members. After this, the people of the bride’s side reached the Ambani residence, where Radhika Merchant and her family members were welcomed amid aarti and chanting. Then everyone went to the temple to seek the blessings of Lord Krishna, where the couple was wished for a bright future. After this Ganesh Puja was performed at the venue and Lagan Patrika was recited traditionally. After this, Gol-Dhana and Chunri method started, in which both the families gave gifts to each other. After performing the traditional rituals, Isha Ambani announced to start the Ring Ceremony. Then Anant and Radhika put rings on each other and took the blessings of the elders of the family.
