While responding to the ongoing debate in the Lok Sabha on electoral reforms and Special Intensive Revision (SIR), Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday turned the pages of history. He not only rejected the allegations of the opposition, but also narrated the 70-year-old story of ‘vote theft’ and ‘violation of democracy’, referring to the tenure of the country’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru to Sonia Gandhi and Indira Gandhi. Amit Shah’s attitude was so aggressive that he directly targeted the Gandhi family and said that those who cry for democracy should first look into their own backyards.
Nehru being PM is the first vote theft.
Amit Shah said, Nehru being PM was the first vote theft. After independence, the Prime Minister of the country was to be decided. At that time, Sardar Patel got 28 votes and Jawaharlal Nehru got 2 votes, and Jawaharlal Nehru became the Prime Minister. Shah was referring to the meeting of the Congress Working Committee after independence, in which Pandit Nehru was made the Prime Minister despite Sardar Patel allegedly getting the majority. Shah said that when public opinion was with someone else and someone else got the throne, the murder of democracy had started from there.
Indira Gandhi’s election second vote theft
While answering the questions being raised on the appointments and autonomy of the Election Commission, Amit Shah reminded the era of Indira Gandhi. Shah said, the leader of the opposition said that you gave immunity (protection) to the election commissioners. Suppose we gave immunity to the Election Commissioner, but Indira Gandhi had given immunity to herself. Bypassing judge number 2-3-4, he made the fourth judge the Chief Justice and also won his case. This is history, who can deny it? Referring to the constitutional amendments made after the Emergency and the Allahabad High Court decision, the Home Minister said that those who played with the judiciary and the Constitution are today talking about saving democracy.
Sonia Gandhi became a voter before becoming a citizen
Amit Shah also asked questions about Sonia Gandhi’s citizenship and name in the voter list. Shah said, a case has just reached the civil court of Delhi that Sonia Gandhi ji became a voter before becoming a citizen of this country. On hearing this, the opposition MPs started creating a ruckus. Amidst the noise, Amit Shah continued his speech and said, opposition MPs are raising questions, but now they have to answer in the court. We don’t have to answer.
